Turkey Visa for Indians — Complete Guide 2026: e-Visa, Sticker Visa, Tourist, Business and Transit
Turkey Visa for
Indians — Complete Guide 2026
Everything Indian passport holders need to know — the key difference between the online e-Visa and the Sticker Visa, Tourist, Business and Transit options, photograph and document requirements, Istanbul and Cappadocia travel planning, and RTH World Tour Packages processing from Rs.5,999.
Turkey — officially the Republic of Türkiye — is one of the most extraordinary destinations on the planet for Indian travellers: a country that straddles two continents, carries the layered legacies of Byzantine, Ottoman, Seljuk, and ancient Anatolian civilisations, and delivers a travel experience that blends world-class history with spectacular natural landscapes and a warm, generous hospitality culture. Standing before the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul — a building that served as a Christian cathedral, an Ottoman mosque, a museum, and now a mosque again across 1,500 years — is one of travel's great humbling moments. The fairy chimneys and cave hotels of Cappadocia, the limestone travertine terraces of Pamukkale, the turquoise waters of the Turkish Riviera along Antalya and Fethiye's coastline, and the ancient theatre of Ephesus together make Turkey's breadth of sightseeing unmatched in the region. Visit our guides to the historical places in Turkey, the top museums in Turkey, outdoor attractions, and the best beaches in Turkey for in-depth destination guides.
The practical question for Indian travellers is how to obtain the Turkey visa — and the answer requires understanding a critical distinction between two separate visa routes. The Turkey e-Visa is a fast online process at evisa.gov.tr — but it is only available to Indian passport holders who hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, the United States, the United Kingdom, or Ireland. Indians who do not hold one of these qualifying documents must apply for the Turkey Sticker Visa through Gateway International (the authorised visa application centre network in India), which requires an in-person biometric appointment. RTH World Tour Packages processes both routes — the e-Visa at Rs.5,999 and the Sticker Visa at Rs.23,000, with an Express Sticker Visa at Rs.29,999 for priority processing.
An additional point that many Indian travellers discover only when booking flights: since April 2024, Indian nationals transiting through Istanbul Airport (IST) en route to specific destinations must obtain an electronic Airport Transit Visa (eATV) in advance — even if they remain in the airport transit zone. This guide covers every aspect of both visa routes, the airport transit requirement, photograph specifications, the complete documents checklist, and 15 detailed FAQs.

e-Visa vs Sticker Visa vs Express — Full Comparison
The two main Turkey visa routes for Indian nationals are fundamentally different in eligibility, process, timeline, validity, and cost. Understanding which applies to you is the single most important step in your Turkey visa journey:
| Feature | e-Visa | Sticker Visa | Express Sticker |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who can apply | Indians with valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa/permit | All Indian passport holders | All Indian passport holders |
| Application method | Fully online at evisa.gov.tr | In-person biometric at Gateway International centre | In-person biometric at Gateway International centre |

The Turkey e-Visa for Indians is available only if you hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country (any of the 27 Schengen Area nations), the United States, the United Kingdom, or Ireland. The qualifying visa/permit must be valid — not expired — though it may be held in a previous (old) passport, in which case you must travel with both your old and new passports to Turkey. If you do not hold any of these qualifying documents, the Sticker Visa is the only applicable route for you — the e-Visa is not an option. Applying for the e-Visa without a qualifying document is an error that leads to refusal at the Turkish border.
Turkey Visa Categories for Indian Nationals
Tourist Visa — e-Visa or Sticker
The primary visa for Indians visiting Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, Antalya, Ephesus, and all of Turkey's cultural and coastal destinations. Available as both e-Visa (if eligible) and Sticker Visa.
- Stay: 30 days per entry (e-Visa); up to 90 days total (sticker, depending on type)
- Validity: 180 days (e-Visa) / 90 days (sticker)
- Entry: Single (both routes)
- e-Visa fee: USD 43 (~Rs.3,650–4,600) government fee + RTH Rs.5,999 total
- Sticker fee via RTH: Rs.23,000 total
Business Visa — Sticker Route
For Indian nationals attending trade events, conferences, business meetings, or exploring commercial opportunities in Turkey. Both e-Visa and Sticker Visa cover business visit purposes. For longer-term business engagement, the embassy route provides extended options.
- Stay: 30 days (e-Visa); up to 90 days (sticker)
- Additional documents: Cover letter from Indian employer; invitation letter from Turkish business host; business registration documents
- Multiple entry: Available through Sticker Visa route at higher fee — useful for frequent Turkey visits
- Work permits: Separate work visa required for paid employment in Turkey
Transit Visa — Airport Transit Visa (eATV)
Since April 15, 2024, Indian nationals transiting through Istanbul Airport and other Turkish airports to specific destinations require an electronic Airport Transit Visa (eATV) even when remaining airside.
- Required for: Indians transiting to Mexico, Panama, Colombia and Venezuela via Istanbul Airport (IST) — and vice versa
- Also applicable: Additional nationalities including Afghanistan, Nepal and others transiting IST require the eATV to all destinations
- Apply: Online before travel — separate application from tourist e-Visa
- Airside only: Permits transit in the international zone at IST; does not permit entry into Turkey proper
- Standard airside transit: Indians transiting to non-restricted destinations who remain fully airside do not need the eATV — but the restricted destination list is maintained by Turkish immigration and should be checked before booking connections through Istanbul
Passport Requirements and Rules
Validity Requirement
- Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Turkey — enforced at Turkish border control
- Some sources indicate a minimum 60-day validity requirement for the e-Visa portal itself — however, airlines almost universally apply the 6-month rule at check-in and will deny boarding if your passport expires within 6 months of the Turkey travel date
- Ensure 6 months validity from your return date to India, not merely from the Turkey departure date
Blank Pages
- Minimum 2 completely blank pages required for entry and exit stamps
- The Turkey Sticker Visa occupies one page — if your passport has only 2 blank pages, one is used by the visa sticker and the second is for the entry/exit stamps
- Best practice: ensure at least 3 blank pages before applying for the sticker visa
- Do not count endorsement, amendment, or observation pages — stamp-designated pages only
Passport Condition
- No handwritten amendments, corrections, or personal annotations on any data page
- No significant physical damage — torn, water-damaged, or delaminating passports are rejected at both Gateway International and Turkish border control
- If any personal details (name, date of birth, address) have changed since passport issue, carry legal supporting documents
- If you renewed your passport after obtaining an e-Visa, re-apply for a new e-Visa on the new passport number — the e-Visa is linked to the specific passport number
Old Passport with Qualifying Visa
- If your qualifying Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa is in an old/expired passport, the visa may still be used to establish e-Visa eligibility — provided the qualifying visa itself is still within its validity period
- You must travel to Turkey carrying both your current (new) passport and the old passport containing the qualifying visa — Turkish immigration officers will verify both at entry
- This is a well-established and legitimate practice, not an exception — it is explicitly acknowledged on the Turkish e-Visa portal
Photograph Requirements — Biometric Specifications
Turkey requires a biometric photograph — the specifications differ slightly from standard passport photo dimensions used in most Indian visa applications. Review carefully before preparing your application:
Physical Photos — Sticker Visa / Biometric Appointment
- Size: 35 mm x 35 mm — square format (not the rectangular 35x45mm used for many other visas)
- Two recent colour photographs required for sticker visa physical submission
- Taken within the last 6 months
- Printed on professional photographic paper — matte or semi-gloss; no inkjet prints
- Sharp, in focus, correctly exposed — no grain, blur, or pixelation
- At the biometric appointment centre, a digital photograph is also taken — however, your physical photos must still be provided with documents
Digital Upload — e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr
- JPEG format
- Minimum 300 dpi
- Proportional to biometric standards — face covering 70–80% of the frame
- Taken within last 6 months
- Plain white or off-white background — no shadows
- Original photograph — no digital retouching, background replacement, or filters
- File size as accepted by the portal (typically under 2 MB)
Background, Expression and Pose
- Background: Plain white only — no patterns, no cream or grey backgrounds, no shadows behind the head
- Full face visible — both ears ideally visible, neutral expression
- Eyes fully open, looking directly at camera — no squinting, no looking away
- Mouth closed — no smiling, no visible teeth
- Head straight — no tilt, no rotation
- Shoulders visible and squared to camera
- Uniform, diffused lighting — no harsh shadows on face or background
Not Permitted in Photographs
- Glasses of any type — remove all eyewear (prescription spectacles, sunglasses) for Turkey visa photos
- Any headgear — hats, caps, turbans, hoods (religious exception: plain covering, full face including chin and forehead visible)
- Hair covering the eyes, eyebrows, or face outline
- Digital background replacement or photographic filters
- Photos older than 6 months
- Low-resolution selfies taken without professional lighting
- Photos with other persons or objects in the frame
- Heavy make-up significantly altering appearance from normal day-to-day look
Turkey's biometric photograph specification uses a 35 mm x 35 mm square format — distinct from the 35x45mm rectangular format required for most Indian visa applications (UK, Schengen, Japan, Zambia, etc.). Many Indian photo studios will automatically produce 35x45mm passport photos unless you specifically request the Turkey biometric format. When visiting a photographer for Turkey visa photos, explicitly state the required dimensions: 35mm wide by 35mm high. The Gateway International/VFS application centre also captures a digital biometric photograph on the day of your appointment, but your printed 35x35mm photos remain a required document submission.

e-Visa Application Procedure — evisa.gov.tr (Eligible Indians Only)
All e-Visa and Sticker Visa steps are fully managed by RTH World Tour Packages — e-Visa at Rs.5,999 and Sticker Visa at Rs.23,000. WhatsApp us on +91 91009 84920 to confirm your eligibility route and begin your application.
Confirm e-Visa Eligibility — Check Qualifying Visa
Before visiting evisa.gov.tr, verify that you hold a valid Schengen visa, US visa, UK visa, or Ireland visa or residence permit. The qualifying visa/permit must be valid (not expired). Check its expiry date carefully — a visa that expired before your planned Turkey travel date does not qualify, even if it was used previously. If your qualifying visa is in an old passport, locate that passport — you will need it for the application and must carry it to Turkey. If you do not hold any qualifying document, proceed directly to the Sticker Visa route with RTH.
Prepare Digital Files
Before opening the portal, prepare:
- Passport biographical data page — clear JPEG scan, all text legible
- Qualifying visa/permit scan — clear scan showing the visa type, issue date, expiry date, and country
- Digital photograph — JPEG, 300 dpi, white background, taken within 6 months, biometric standards
Complete Online Application at evisa.gov.tr
Visit evisa.gov.tr — the official Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs e-Visa portal. Do not use third-party websites — many charge significantly higher fees. Select India as your nationality, choose the visa type, and complete the form with personal details exactly as they appear in your passport. Enter your qualifying visa details accurately — type, issuing country, visa number, validity dates. Enter planned entry and exit dates and Turkey accommodation details. Use only the official portal — third-party e-Visa sites are not affiliated with the Turkish government and charge additional unnecessary service fees.
Pay the e-Visa Fee
Pay USD 43 (~Rs.3,650–4,600 depending on exchange rate) using a credit or debit card. The fee is non-refundable. Keep the payment receipt and the reference number. RTH World Tour Packages' Rs.5,999 fee covers this USD 43 government charge plus the complete documentation support and application management service.
Receive e-Visa by Email and Print
Processing is typically minutes to 3 working days. Upon approval, the e-Visa is emailed as a PDF. Print this document — Turkish immigration officers check the printed e-Visa at the border alongside your passport. Print at least 3 copies. Airlines may request it at check-in. The e-Visa confirms your permitted entry period, maximum 30-day stay, and single-entry status. Verify all details match your passport and travel plans before flying.
Sticker Visa Application Procedure — Gateway International (All Indians)
Gather All Documents — Complete Checklist First
The most common cause of sticker visa delays and rejections is incomplete documentation. Prepare all documents from the complete checklist before booking your appointment — passport, photographs (35x35mm), cover letter, financial evidence, employment documents, flight and hotel bookings, travel insurance, and any business-specific documents. RTH World Tour Packages conducts a full document review before proceeding to appointment booking.
Register and Book Appointment at Gateway International
Turkey visa applications in India are processed through Gateway International (formerly operating through VFS Global). Visit the portal to register an account and book a biometric appointment at the nearest centre. Gateway International operates centres in major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Kolkata. Book 2–3 weeks in advance — appointment slots fill quickly especially during the April–October peak season. A portion of the visa fee is paid online during appointment booking.
Attend Biometric Appointment
Arrive at the Gateway International centre on your appointment date carrying:
- Original passport (all passports if applicable) plus photocopies
- Printed visa application form (completed and signed)
- Two photographs (35x35mm, white background, within 6 months)
- All supporting documents from the complete checklist
- Payment for the remaining visa fee balance (cash/card as specified by the centre)
At the centre, you provide biometric data — fingerprints and a digital photograph. Submit all documents. You receive a tracking number/receipt for status monitoring. Your passport is physically held at the centre during the processing period — plan travel accordingly and do not submit your passport if you have upcoming travel requiring it.
Track Application and Await Decision
Track your application status online using the reference number provided at the centre. Standard processing is 5–15 working days. Express processing (Rs.29,999 through RTH) provides a faster turnaround. Check your application tracking number regularly — additional documents may be requested by the Turkish Embassy during review. RTH World Tour Packages monitors application status and alerts you immediately if any additional information is required.
Collect Passport with Visa Sticker
Upon approval, your passport is returned to the Gateway International centre with the Turkey visa sticker affixed inside — showing the visa type, validity period, permitted maximum stay, and entry conditions. Collect in person or opt for courier return at your registered address. Verify all details on the visa sticker before leaving the collection point — check visa type, validity dates, permitted stay duration, and passport number match. If any detail is wrong, report it immediately to the centre before using the visa.

Check e-Visa Eligibility First
Before applying for anything, check if your Schengen/US/UK/Ireland visa is valid. If yes — use the e-Visa route at Rs.5,999. If no — the Sticker Visa at Rs.23,000 is your route. Applying for the e-Visa without a valid qualifying document results in refusal at the Turkish border.
Use 35x35mm Square Photos
Turkey's biometric photo is square — 35x35mm, not the 35x45mm rectangle used for most other visas. Ask your photographer explicitly for Turkey biometric format. Submit photos taken within the last 6 months without glasses or headgear.
Apply at Least 3 Weeks Before Travel
The sticker visa takes 5–15 working days. Add appointment booking lead time, passport collection or courier time. Apply at least 3 weeks before travel — 4–5 weeks for peak season (April–October). Do not book non-refundable flights until your visa is confirmed.
Minimum Rs.1.5–2 Lakhs Bank Balance
Turkish visa officers assess financial sufficiency carefully. Ensure your bank statements show consistent savings of at least Rs.1.5–2 lakhs (approx. USD 1,800–2,500) for a week-long trip. More is expected for longer stays, business trips, or family travel. Avoid large one-time deposits before the statement period.
Travel Insurance — €30,000 Minimum
Travel insurance with minimum €30,000 (~Rs.2.7 lakhs) medical coverage is mandatory for the sticker visa and recommended for all Turkey travel. Ensure the policy explicitly covers Turkey. Gateway International centres offer insurance as part of their package — verify the coverage amount is compliant.
Check Istanbul Transit Visa Need
If your Turkey trip involves connecting through Istanbul Airport (IST) onward to Mexico, Panama, Colombia, or Venezuela, you need an electronic Airport Transit Visa (eATV) separately. Check the current list of restricted onward destinations at the Turkish e-Visa portal before booking connections through Istanbul.
Print Your e-Visa
The Turkey e-Visa must be printed and presented at the border alongside your passport. Print at least 3 copies — airlines may check it at boarding. Do not rely solely on a phone screen — Turkish immigration officers require a physical printout at the entry gate.
Best Seasons for Turkey
Spring (April–June) and Autumn (September–November) offer ideal weather for Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, and Pamukkale. July–August is peak summer — hot on the coast but popular for beach holidays along the Turkish Riviera. Cappadocia hot air balloons operate best in spring and autumn.
Planning Your Turkey Journey — Essential Destinations
Turkey is vast and extraordinarily varied — a well-planned first visit typically combines Istanbul with at least one Aegean or Central Anatolian destination. Our dedicated guides to Turkey's historical landmarks, the finest museums, the country's outstanding outdoor attractions, and the best beaches on the Turkish Riviera provide in-depth coverage of each region. Here is a summary of the essential highlights:
Istanbul — 3–4 Days
Turkey's most visited city and the cultural heart of the country. Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar, Spice Market, Bosphorus cruise, and the Galata Tower. Split between Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus — take the ferry between continents for one of travel's great experiences.
Cappadocia — 2–3 Days
The surreal volcanic landscape of Central Turkey — fairy chimneys, cave hotels, underground cities at Derinkuyu and Kaymakli, the Open Air Museum at Göreme, and the legendary hot air balloon rides over the valleys at dawn. One of the most visually distinctive landscapes on earth.
Ephesus and the Aegean Coast — 2–3 Days
The ancient city of Ephesus — one of the best-preserved Greco-Roman cities in the world, with the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, and the Temple of Artemis. Nearby: Pamukkale's white travertine terraces and the ancient Hierapolis ruins soaking in thermal waters. Base in Selçuk or Kuşadası.
Antalya and the Turkish Riviera — 3–5 Days
Turkey's stunning Mediterranean coast — Antalya's old harbour (Kaleiçi), the ancient cities of Perge and Aspendos, the dramatic gorge at Köprülü Canyon, Olympos ruins, and the turquoise lagoon at Ölüdeniz near Fethiye. World-class beaches, sailing, and coastal hiking on the Lycian Way. Explore our guide to Turkey's best beaches.
Ankara — 1–2 Days
Turkey's capital and the location of the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations — one of the world's great archaeological museums housing artefacts from 10,000 years of Central Anatolian history. Atatürk's Mausoleum (Anıtkabir) and the Ankara Castle complete a worthwhile capital visit.
Bodrum, Marmaris and the Blue Coast — 3–5 Days
Bodrum's beautiful white-washed old town, the Castle of St Peter, and vibrant nightlife. Marmaris as a base for gulet (traditional wooden sailing boat) cruises along the Blue Voyage route through islands and coves inaccessible by road. See Turkey's top outdoor experiences for sailing and adventure options.

Yes — all Indian passport holders (except diplomatic passport holders) require a visa to enter Turkey. Turkey abolished the visa-on-arrival facility for Indian nationals in April 2014. Since then, Indians must obtain either an e-Visa or a Sticker Visa before travelling to Turkey.
There are two routes: the e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr (quick, online, USD 43) — but only for Indians who hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, the US, UK or Ireland. And the Sticker Visa through Gateway International — available to all Indian passport holders regardless of other visa holdings, requiring a biometric appointment at a Gateway International centre in India. RTH World Tour Packages processes the e-Visa at Rs.5,999 and the Sticker Visa at Rs.23,000.
Diplomatic passport holders of India are exempt from the visa requirement and can stay in Turkey for up to 90 days without a visa. All other Indian passport categories (ordinary, official, service) require a visa without exception.
The e-Visa and the Sticker Visa are fundamentally different in eligibility, process, timeline, and validity. Understanding which applies to you is the single most critical step:
| Feature | Turkey e-Visa | Turkey Sticker Visa |
|---|---|---|
| Who qualifies | Indians with valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa/permit | All Indian passport holders |
| Application method | Fully online at evisa.gov.tr — no visit required | In-person biometric at Gateway International centre |
| Processing time | Minutes to 3 working days | 5–15 working days |
| Visa validity | 180 days from issue | 90 days from issue |
| Max stay | 30 days per entry | 30 days (single entry standard) |
| Travel insurance | Not formally required | Mandatory — €30,000 minimum |
| Passport submitted | No — visa emailed as PDF; no sticker | Yes — passport submitted and returned with sticker |
| RTH fee | Rs.5,999 (includes USD 43 gov. fee) | Rs.23,000 / Rs.29,999 express |
The 180-day validity of the e-Visa versus the 90-day validity of the sticker visa is a practical advantage for eligible Indians — it provides a much longer window within which you can enter Turkey, and is particularly useful for flexible travel planning. The sticker visa's shorter 90-day window means you must enter Turkey within 3 months of the visa issue date.
The qualifying documents for the Turkey e-Visa are specific and must be carefully verified:
- Schengen Visa: Any valid visa issued by a Schengen Area member state (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland). The visa must be a single/double/multiple entry Schengen visa — not a national visa for one country only
- US Visa: Any valid non-immigrant or immigrant US visa (B1/B2 tourist, F student, H work, etc.) issued by the US Embassy or Consulate. A valid US Visa must be issued by the US Department of State — a US Electronic Travel Authorisation (ESTA) does not qualify
- UK Visa: Any valid UK visa issued by the British Home Office — visitor visas, student visas, work visas, long-term residence visas. A UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) does not qualify
- Ireland Visa: Any valid Irish visa or residence permit issued by the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS)
- Residence Permits: Valid permanent or temporary residence permits from Schengen countries, the US, UK, or Ireland also qualify — even if you do not hold a travel visa
Important conditions:
- The qualifying document must be valid at the time of Turkey entry — not merely valid at the time of e-Visa application
- Expired qualifying visas can still qualify if the visa was used at least once and the e-Visa portal accepts it — but verify current portal rules at evisa.gov.tr before applying; the rules occasionally change
- If the qualifying visa is in a previous (expired/renewed) passport, carry both passports to Turkey
Since April 15, 2024, Indian nationals transiting through Turkish airports (including Istanbul Airport — IST) en route to certain specific destinations require an electronic Airport Transit Visa (eATV) in advance, even if they remain entirely within the international transit zone and do not enter Turkey proper.
Which destinations trigger the eATV requirement for Indians? The requirement currently applies to Indians transiting at Istanbul Airport to or from: Mexico, Panama, Colombia, and Venezuela. These are the primary triggers for Indian passport holders specifically.
Additional nationalities also affected: Citizens of Afghanistan, Nepal, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Chad, Somalia, Cameroon, Mauritania, and Yemen require the eATV for transit to all destinations through IST — not just the four countries above. Indians are on a more limited list but must check before booking any Istanbul connecting flight.
How to apply for the eATV:
- Apply online at evisa.gov.tr — select "Airport Transit Visa" as the visa type
- Provide passport details, travel itinerary (both flights), and intended onward destination
- Pay the applicable government fee online
- Receive the eATV by email — print and carry alongside your passport
Standard airside transit without eATV: Indians transiting IST to destinations not on the restricted list (for example, transiting through Istanbul to Europe, the Middle East, or other non-restricted countries) can transit airside at IST without an eATV — provided they remain in the international transit area and do not go through passport control into Turkey.
Practical advice: If your Turkey trip involves a connecting flight through IST to anywhere in Latin America, check the current eATV requirements at evisa.gov.tr before booking — the restricted destination list can be updated by Turkish authorities. RTH World Tour Packages advises on eATV requirements for all Istanbul routing as part of our visa service.
The stay permission for Indian nationals on Turkey visas:
- e-Visa: Maximum 30 days per entry; total of up to 30 days within the 180-day validity window; single entry
- Single-entry Sticker Visa (tourist): Typically 30 days within the 90-day validity window
- Multiple-entry Sticker Visa: Up to 90 days total within the validity period — check the specific conditions on your visa sticker
Extending your stay: You can apply for an extension at the nearest Turkish Directorate General of Migration Management (DGMM) office before your permitted stay expires. Extensions are not guaranteed and are assessed on a case-by-case basis. You must apply before the current permission expires — do not overstay expecting to resolve it at departure.
Overstay consequences:
- Fines levied on departure at the airport or land border — proportional to the number of overstay days
- Potential entry ban from Turkey for a defined period — varying from 1 month to permanent depending on the overstay duration
- Record of the overstay is retained in Turkey's immigration database — this will affect future Turkish visa applications, potentially resulting in rejections even after the ban period
- In serious cases of deliberate overstay, detention and deportation proceedings can be initiated
Leave Turkey before or on the last day of your permitted stay. The permitted stay is counted from the actual date of entry stamped in your passport — not the issue date of the visa.
Turkey uses a biometric photograph standard. The critical specification that catches many Indian applicants off guard is the square 35x35mm format — different from the 35x45mm rectangle used for most other visas Indians apply for:
| Specification | Physical (Sticker Visa) | Digital (e-Visa Upload) |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | 35 mm x 35 mm (square) | JPEG, biometric proportions |
| Quantity | 2 identical prints | 1 digital upload |
| Background | Plain white only | Plain white only |
| Recency | Within 6 months | Within 6 months |
| Format | Professional photographic paper | JPEG, min. 300 dpi, under 2 MB |
| Face coverage | 70–80% of frame | 70–80% of frame |
| Expression | Neutral, mouth closed | Neutral, mouth closed |
| Glasses | Not permitted | Not permitted |
| Headgear | Not permitted (religious exception: full face visible) | Not permitted |
Additionally, at the biometric appointment centre (Gateway International), your fingerprints and a live digital photograph are taken on the day. However, the two physical 35x35mm photographs are still required as part of the document submission. Always bring more photographs than required — if one is rejected as non-compliant, having an extra set prevents delay.
For the Turkey Sticker Visa: Travel insurance with a minimum of €30,000 (approximately Rs.2.7 lakhs or USD 33,000) medical coverage is mandatory. It is a required document in the application submission and a missing or insufficient insurance policy will cause a rejection or significant delay.
The insurance policy must:
- Cover a minimum of €30,000 for medical expenses and hospitalisation
- Be valid for the entire duration of your planned stay in Turkey
- Explicitly name Turkey as a covered destination
- Include medical emergency repatriation coverage
- Be from a recognised, licensed insurance company — most major Indian travel insurers meet these requirements
For the Turkey e-Visa: Travel insurance is not formally required by the evisa.gov.tr portal as a document upload. However, Turkish authorities and airlines may verify insurance at entry in some circumstances. RTH World Tour Packages recommends comprehensive travel insurance for all Turkey trips regardless of visa type — Turkey is a major country with high-quality but expensive medical facilities in cities, and comprehensive coverage costs very little relative to the potential bills.
Gateway International centres typically offer on-site travel insurance procurement as part of their sticker visa service package. The insurance fee is usually included or offered as an add-on when booking your appointment. Confirm the policy details and coverage amount before paying — some basic policies offered at centres may need to be supplemented.
Best seasons for Indian travellers:
- April–June (Spring): Ideal for Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, Ankara, and Pamukkale. Mild temperatures 18–28°C, wildflower blooms in Cappadocia's valleys, all attractions fully operational, Cappadocia hot air balloons flying daily. Excellent for photography. Book accommodation well ahead — the most popular season
- September–November (Autumn): Second-best season — warm, uncrowded, excellent visibility for Cappadocia balloon flights. Turkish Riviera beaches remain warm in September. Ideal for longer itineraries combining culture and coast
- July–August (Summer): Peak beach season on the Turkish Riviera — Antalya, Fethiye, Bodrum, Marmaris. Temperatures 35–42°C on the coast and in Central Anatolia. Istanbul and Cappadocia are crowded and hot — best avoided in August. Book everything months ahead for coastal summer travel
- December–March (Winter): Low season with significantly cheaper accommodation and flights. Istanbul in winter is atmospheric — less crowded, moody skies, the Grand Bazaar and covered markets comfortable to explore. Snow possible in Cappadocia — adds drama to the landscape but some balloon flights are grounded. Turkish Riviera is closed-season
Sample 10-day first-time Turkey itinerary for Indians:
- Days 1–4: Istanbul — Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar, Galata district, Bosphorus cruise
- Days 5–7: Cappadocia — fly from Istanbul (45 min); fairy chimneys, Göreme Open Air Museum, underground city, hot air balloon dawn flight, cave hotel stay
- Days 8–10: Pamukkale + Ephesus — fly or overnight bus from Cappadocia to Denizli/Selçuk; Hierapolis ruins and travertine pools, Library of Celsus at Ephesus

For the Turkey Sticker Visa, the complete document checklist covers eight categories of evidence. The cover letter occupies a special position because it is the only narrative document — the one place where you speak directly to the Turkish Embassy/Consulate reviewer about who you are, why you want to visit Turkey, and why you will return to India:
Core documents (all applicants):
- Original valid Indian passport (6 months validity, 2–3 blank pages) + photocopy of data page
- Two photographs — 35x35mm, white background, taken within 6 months, no glasses
- Completed and printed Turkey visa application form
- Round-trip flight booking confirmation (or agent's confirmed itinerary)
- Hotel booking confirmation or accommodation voucher for full stay
- Cover letter — addressed to the Turkish Consulate General / Embassy
- Travel insurance — minimum €30,000 coverage for Turkey
- Bank statements — last 6 months, bank attested, minimum Rs.1.5–2 lakhs balance
- Last 2–3 years' Income Tax Returns
- Employment letter / business registration / student NOC
Why the cover letter matters: The cover letter establishes the narrative of your application. A well-written cover letter that includes: a specific purpose statement (which cities, which historical sites from our Turkey heritage guide, which museums, which beaches), confirmed accommodation names, exact travel dates, funding source, employment details, approved leave, and a clear statement of intent to return — significantly strengthens an otherwise borderline application. Vague, generic cover letters are a major red flag. RTH World Tour Packages reviews and structures the cover letter as part of our Rs.23,000 sticker visa processing service.
Turkey has seen rapidly growing Indian tourist numbers over the past decade, driven by: visa accessibility (e-Visa for Schengen holders; sticker visa for others), competitive airfares from India to Istanbul, strong hotel and tour value compared to European destinations, and the extraordinary diversity of Turkey's sightseeing. Turkey regularly features in lists of top international destinations for Indian travellers alongside Dubai, Singapore, Thailand, and Bali.
Turkey's visa approval rate for Indian nationals is generally high when applications are correctly and completely prepared. Turkey's tourism ministry actively targets Indian visitors as a source market. The Indian High Commission in Ankara and the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi have been strengthening bilateral tourism and visa facilitation ties.
Key factors that affect approval rates negatively for Indians:
- Insufficient financial evidence — bank statements showing inadequate or inconsistent balance
- Incomplete documentation — missing cover letter, inadequate travel insurance, no employment proof
- Weak ties to India — no stable employment, no property ownership, no family evidence suggesting return
- Prior immigration violations — overstays or refusals in Turkey or other countries
- Inconsistency between documents — travel dates not matching hotel bookings or flight tickets
- Non-compliant photographs — wrong size (35x45 instead of 35x35), or photos older than 6 months
When applying through RTH World Tour Packages, every application is reviewed for completeness and compliance before submission — addressing all known rejection triggers proactively. Our team's experience across hundreds of Turkey visa applications provides a practical advantage in preparing applications that meet Turkish Embassy standards first time.
Each family member — including children of all ages — must have their own individual Turkey visa. There is no family visa or joint application facility. Each passport holder requires their own separate application, their own photographs, their own visa processing fee, and their own approval.
Specific rules for children:
- Children must have their own individual passport and individual Turkey visa — children cannot enter Turkey on a parent's passport
- Children's photographs must meet the same specifications (35x35mm, white background, no headgear) — infants must be photographed alone on a white background, no restraints or adult hands visible
- For children travelling with one parent: carry a notarised No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the non-travelling parent, apostilled if the other parent is abroad
- Children's visa fees are the same as adult fees — no age-based discounts
- For families, the e-Visa route (if eligible) is significantly faster and cheaper per person than the sticker visa. If some family members hold qualifying Schengen/US/UK/Ireland visas and others do not, the two routes can be used simultaneously for different family members
RTH World Tour Packages coordinates simultaneous visa applications for all family members — ensuring consistent travel dates, entry ports, and documentation across all applications. Contact us with the complete family group details for a coordinated processing plan at the best applicable fees.
A Turkey visa rejection — for either the e-Visa or the Sticker Visa — is a serious matter that requires careful handling. Here is what to know and what to do:
e-Visa rejection:
- The e-Visa portal may decline an application if the qualifying visa/permit details cannot be verified, if passport details are incorrect, or if the system flags an anomaly
- If declined online, the fee is typically not refunded (confirm at time of application)
- Review the specific reason given (portal may show an error code or message), correct the issue, and reapply
- If the issue is ambiguous — contact RTH World Tour Packages to diagnose the problem before reapplying
Sticker Visa rejection:
- Your passport is returned with a rejection letter stating the reason for refusal — most commonly: insufficient financial evidence, incomplete documentation, weak cover letter, or non-compliant photograph
- All fees are non-refundable — including the government fee, service charges, and any insurance premium purchased for the application
- There is no mandatory waiting period before reapplying — you can submit a new application immediately with corrected documentation
- The rejection is noted in the Turkish immigration database — subsequent applications should explicitly address the reason for the previous rejection
- A prior rejection does not automatically prevent approval on a subsequent application — many applicants are approved on a second application after correcting the specific deficiency
RTH World Tour Packages provides a post-rejection analysis service — we review your rejection letter, identify the specific cause, restructure the application with corrected documents, and resubmit with an improved file. Contact our team immediately upon receiving a rejection letter.

Appointment slots — particularly in Delhi and Mumbai during the peak April–October travel season — fill up weeks in advance. RTH World Tour Packages pre-books appointment slots for clients as early as possible to avoid delays. Contact us to begin the appointment booking process before preparing documents.
Turkey has an excellent safety record for international tourists and welcomes over 50 million visitors annually — making it one of the most visited countries in the world. Indian tourists are well-received and the country has a strong hospitality culture. The main tourist areas — Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, Bodrum, Fethiye, Pamukkale, and Ephesus — are thoroughly safe for Indian travellers.
Practical safety and logistics information:
- Border and conflict areas: Avoid travel to areas near Turkey's southern border with Syria (Hatay, Sanliurfa provinces) — the Indian Ministry of External Affairs advises caution in these border zones. All major tourist areas are unaffected
- Currency: Turkish Lira (TRY). USD, EUR, and GBP are widely exchanged at exchange offices (döviz) — better rates than banks or airport exchanges. Credit cards widely accepted in Istanbul, Cappadocia, and coastal resorts. Carry some cash for bazaars, local restaurants, and smaller towns
- Language: Turkish is the official language. English is spoken widely in tourist areas, hotels, and restaurants. Learn a few Turkish phrases (merhaba = hello; teşekkürler = thank you) — appreciated by locals and often rewarded with warmth
- Indian vegetarian food: Turkish cuisine is meat-heavy but vegetarian options exist — salads, hummus, lentil soup (mercimek), white cheese, eggs, and bread are widely available. Istanbul has Indian restaurants. For vegetarians, communicate clearly: "Et yok — sebze istiyorum" (No meat — I want vegetables)
- Dress codes: Dress modestly when visiting mosques — women should cover hair and shoulders; men should cover knees. Scarves are available at mosque entrances. Outside religious sites, Turkey is relaxed about dress in tourist areas
- Bargaining: Standard in the Grand Bazaar and smaller souvenir shops — expect 20–40% reduction from initial asking prices. Fixed-price shops exist alongside market stalls
- Transport: Istanbul has excellent metro, tram, and ferry networks — Istanbulkart (reloadable transit card) covers all public transport. Inter-city: Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, and SunExpress offer competitive domestic flights between Istanbul, Cappadocia (Nevşehir), Antalya, Bodrum, and Izmir
RTH World Tour Packages provides comprehensive Turkey visa processing assistance for Indian passport holders across all three service tiers:
- e-Visa — Rs.5,999: Eligibility verification against qualifying Schengen/US/UK/Ireland visa; complete application at evisa.gov.tr including all form fields; payment processing (USD 43 government fee included or guided); e-Visa receipt and printing guidance; WhatsApp support throughout
- Sticker Visa — Rs.23,000: Complete document checklist review; 35x35mm photograph specification check; cover letter review and structuring guidance; Gateway International appointment booking; application form completion; travel insurance guidance (€30,000 minimum); application tracking; passport collection guidance; WhatsApp support throughout
- Express Sticker Visa — Rs.29,999: All services of the standard sticker visa with priority processing channel at Gateway International for faster turnaround; ideal for last-minute bookings or time-sensitive travel requirements
When should you contact RTH?

- If you have received a previous Turkey visa rejection — we provide post-rejection analysis and re-application support
